not sure if i'd chart this up as a mod, but noticed that the touareg key and the bentley key was roughly the same size the other day. after a little comparison, the damn keys are identical and the remotes have the same functions.

no panic button though...

the spring mechanism also feels about the same, the bentley is just heftier.

same three functions

now...i haven't exactly figured out how to get rid of the bentley badge, not sure if there's an indentation under it but the key's a whole lot more sturdier compared to the volkswagen key simply because it's constructed of metal. the 'plastic' looking part is coated in rubber similar to our interiors and there's no real reason to do this mod except the worn vw logo is bothers me every now and then.

now, just don't know if vw can reprogram this fob to work with the touareg cluster. either way...if i can get a spare bentley fob i'm willing to try this.

fwiw: Bentley fob is from a 2009 Flying Spur | Touareg fob is from a 2006

My father has a 2007 continental gt, it's got a panic button the side... But differences aside, these key fobs cost a (small) fortune! His original key fob was deffective and to get a new one (under warranty) was about a grand to have it programmed and cut... Good luck with this though this is something I've always been curious about

hah...yes they do. bothered the dealer and $OMFG, costs more then my nav unit.

they come up from time to time though, so just going to sit tight and if one crosses my path i'll have a legitimate follow up post. the blades are attached in the same fashion, and i'd imagine it wouldn't be difficult.

also those who have been curious, the lamborghini keys are identical too...but are large and obnoxious.

If it was a previously programmed key ie used, they will not touch it. You could how ever just buy a used key and swap out the parts you are in need of to make yours work.

So they use the same vendor for their keys? Ahhhh OK....

Its just parts bin sharing. VW owns Bentley so they just use the same (albeit slightly restyled) key fob...Audi and Lamborghini key fobs also look the same.

great pic..as far as i'm aware the fob styling is different but the electronics underneath are the same. Some local kid is using a gallardo keyfob for his mk4 golf and he said all it took was programming at the dealer (shrug).

hah...yes, the guts are identical. although, i think the gallardo key is a huge down grade from the oem vw key

it's BIG, extremely cluncky, wears worse then the vw/audi keys...believe it or not, also plastic and only has unlock/lock functions - no trunk. those buttons 'bubble' up faster then the vw/audi keys too!

i tried lifting the bentley...pretty sure that's going to leave a gaping hole =/

Hey wchane, any updates on all this?

Here's a thread with the 2011 Touareg key fob pics http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f49/key-fob-for-my-2011-how-to-protect-it-49081.html#post245488 , but I imagine that one wouldn't work anyways right? :(
No progress, someone always ends up outbidding me when these keys do come up. However, from every tech I've spoken with there should be no reason it won't work - however the key must be a tri-button to retain functionality, which is why I've been trying to get a flying spur key as opposed to the more common azure (at least via ebay)

Dear Fobsters, I have a tip for you if your fob works but looks like a dog chewed the VW off of it. Check out the e-bay for fob logos and you can get two new vw emblems for your fobs. I just put mine on the fobs and they look new for 9 bucks incl. shipping. I know you guys like to fork over tons of money for your stuff but I just thought there may be another old VW guy out there who just cares how things work (In this case looks) for 9 bucks. Merry X-Mas V.

I bought my new ones for the equivalent of $3.50!

And, yes, that included postage for the pair of them.

It can be done but you have to trim the VW circuit board, customize the battery hold down, trim the Bentley buttons and transfer the nearly impossible to remove RFID chip from the OEM key, but its doable.

I personally have not done this but thought i would post it up since i found it on VWvortex and remember someone trying to do it on here

The chip is the hardest thing to remove and you need to be very careful because it breaks easily!! I know this since I transplanted one from a standard key to the remote fob of one for my wife's Passat. You have to be careful cutting the transponder out of the key you want to work.
