Ongoing 2008 Review
I have had a 2004 V8 since near the end of that first model year. I loved it, but unfortunately was t-boned by a speeding Dodge pickup truck and my car was totaled (his fault - failure to yield right-of-way). Safety and ability to stand up to a serious impact are certainly contributing factors to my running immediately back into another one! Yesterday I took delivery of my brand-new 2008 V8.
What I got this time: - White Gold - Lux Plus Package (for the Dynaudio sound system) Since I have already started developing opinions on a few things, I figured I would journal my thoughts on the new one / compared to the old, etc. for the first little bit of ownership. Day Two Thoughts - Pros - Wonderful changes in the snap and immediacy of acceleration. This feels much more responsive and capable than my 2004 - Sleeker look is snappier as well - I was slightly put off by the new seat design, but have now tweaked the settings around to a point where I have it fitting me much better than I ever accomplished in the old one - I love the keyless entry and start / stop - no comparison there though, I didn't have it on the old one - The cabin is quieter than my 2004 - steering seems more responsive (and more fun!) Cons - I don't understand, or appreciate the new taller profile side mirrors. Volkswagen has always seemed to me a 'driving for driving's sake' sort of company and I have always loved them for it - these mirrors block a bit of view when turning and their enhancement is to give more sky in the rear view - I prefer my driving mirrors focused on the road and don't need to check the skies. - I was very disappointed to see the charge light on my cell charger go out when I shut off the car. My 2004 would charge from the cigarette lighters when the car was turned off - I can't believe that a sound system that sounds as good as the Dynaudio does not have an MP3 jack as standard. I know it is VW's radio and they are going to add an adapter for it, but in this day and age - etc. So, that's a start... now I need to get back out there and drive some more! Thanks for the space to yap about my new beauty! |

Try the other cabin power port. It should work with the ignition turned off. The lighter is a lighter. The power port is ... well for power. If not, have VW change that when they do your first service.
