Buying Used Touaregs
Hey Forum,
i am from Germany and i am pretty new to the complete carbuyingmarket here in the states. The Touareg Freunde Germany gave me the advice to check into that site here for some help. I wanna buy me a 06-07 used (Probably certified) Touareg. I live in Chicagoland. After reading a lot about VW in the States and there sometimes not very nice service i am getting a lil scared. Does anybody here have some experience with Dealerships in the Chicagolandarea? I am not sure what to buy the V6 or the V8 as far as i was reading in the MPG is not that much difference. Since i am from Germany and never had a car here i dont know if there is a big difference between the taxes or insurances??? ![]() Thanks for helping me out... |

Little advise from a dutch guy living in The states.
insurance will be high for a foreigner, new in the states. Get a am drivers license asap. take your german insurance records with you. It might help I do not think insurance differs much between V6 or V8 so buy a V8. Most maintenance can be done by yourself or go to regular garage. Specialty stuff is for the dealer(like timing belt) Taxes should not matter that much either. Auch mein Deutsch ist noch immer ziemlich gut

Welcome. I'm german, too and located in the Washington DC area. I can only agree with our fellow dutch tregger: Get a US drivers license as soon as possible, it will reduce insurance costs significantly. Also, because you do not have a "driving record" here in the US, a letter from your German insurance stating that you haven't had any accidents and/or violations might help (only if true, of course

I am not quite sure if 13yearvet also offers pre-owned. But I find even new ones quite affordable: I bought my new 06 V8 last October with a discount of around $15000 off MSRP. It had been sitting at the dealer for quite some time and had around 1500 miles on it from various test drives, but the warranty only started with the purchase.

His name is:
Chris Farnham CFarnham@VWofLanghorne.com 215-741-4100 That's about 30mins from Philadelphia Airport. As far as experience with service is concerned: Has been ok, about the same as back home. Sometimes techs are fairly knowledgable, sometimes they have no clue. I've found a dealership in my area that is reliable. But I haven't had any serious issues with my Tregs either.
