V8 Touareg "Anti Lock Brake Workshop?" ABS Problem

Please Help

I've owned my 05' V8 Touareg for 26 month without any major problems. It currently has 22300 miles. Today, I experienced a problem with my ABS in the morning. As I was driving my LCD displayed "Anti-lock Brake Workshop" Has anyone experienced this?

Second, this afternoon I turned on my engine and put the gear in Reverse but the car didn't budge. I put it in Drive it didn't move forward. I stepped on the gas a little more than I normally need to but it resisted, it almost felt like the parking brake were engaged. I checked the parking brake and it wasn't engaged. I drove a few feet and problem persisted. I finally parked the car and turned off the engine, but lo and behold I heard and felt a loud thump from the rear axle (I think). I immediately got out of the car to see if I hit something, but I didn't and there were no damage. I can't help feel that the two problems are related.

I called the Road Side Assistance and now my Touareg is sitting at the dealership to be inspected in the morning. Because of their poor customer service and almost a neglecting behavior by the VW service department, I would like to ask the club Touareg member for some help with this matter. Any advice or experience and what the resolution was would be greatly appreciate it.

Thank you all for your input

sounds like your dash error is spot on.. you have an issue with the abs which needs looking at.... the brakes likely locked on in "hill start mode" as part of the abs issue. have your dealer read the codes and check it out...

Do you have a rear locking-differential?

The brakes don’t lock in ‘hill start mode’; it is the transmission that locks and keeps the car from rolling back.

I agree that is sounds like one of the calipers may have locked up and threw the fault code. I'd be interested to see how this comes out.

Hopefully it's nothing but a faulty sensor... at most it sounds like it might be a defective caliper.
