UPDATE: Took it to the dealership to get it looked at. The guys said that one of the wiper transmissions was messed up. They printed a list of parts that would be needed, and I looked up a picture of the entire assembly here. Basically they said that i need a "bracket" a "deflector" and a "buffer" which he described as meaning a "motor" a "connecting ______(?)" and a "lock nut" consecutively. Here are the Part Numbers: 7L0955601B, 7L6819401K9B9, and N10549801. All totaled, with labor, the windshield company is going to be shucking out over $580.
We didn't get the work done, just the quote. And to top it all off, Larry, Moe, and Curly took an hour or more to get the key programmed. AND we told them not to set the locks, that we could do that ourselves, but they did anyway and charged us for it. am I miffed? yes I am. PS. any tips on making the windshield company pony up? Their boss never showed up, so we just took it to VW and got a quote since we had to be there anyway. grr. |

I'am new to Touaregs, but some cars have a safety feature,if theres' ice on the windshield or the wiper is stuck it pivots up off the spline,so not to burn the wiper motors up.I agree with V10,take it to the dealer and send the bill to the Windshield Installers.

THE SAGA CONTINUES:
Ok, so we got a quote from the less-than-helpful people at the dealership. It was a lot, and I don't even think they looked at the thing. everything was exactly as we left it when we drove up. they didn't look under the plastic screen, as best I could tell. Instead, I think they took a guess at what is wrong and threw together a part list and price. From now on, I'll be traveling to another dealership. I'm sick of the guys at Al Johnson in Dalton. We called the glass people yet again and they FINALLY (after 2 weeks) came out and had a look at it. They did manage to get the nuts off, but still can't get the wiper to slide off. We got the driver's side off, but the passenger one is still stuck. He's talking about getting a gripper-tool thingy to vice it and pull it up...(?). This makes me nervous. From what we can figure, the guy that put it back on didn't line it up right and it bent the little tooth-things, bracing it from being pulled back off. Does that make sense? We are trying to be nice to them because we understand that people make mistakes, but there's talk of them ordering the parts they need online and of them doing the replacing of it themselves. I just want to take it to a real-live VW place and have them make it all better... and send the bill to the glass place. Can I do that? *sigh* |

I told you before to get it in writting that they will cover the repair and then take it to someone who knows what the hell they are doing. The glass company jacked it up in the first place, I sure as hell would not allow them to fix it. They have to have insurance for that stuff anyhow. They need to pay to get it fixed, but I would not let them fix it.

I have had my wiper arm off and replaced with new one. The wiper arm does not have a spline, the spline is only on the shaft side, which is a tapered spline. To get the arm to lock onto the shaft you need to tighten the arm down, this beds the spline into the wiper arm.I am sure there would be a correct torque setting for this , but I just did mine up tight.

Yeti...I know, I know...
However, we were trying to give them a chance to correct their mistake (as we all would like). They came out today and after some tinkering and a suggestion from my Dad, finally got them working. I don't have time right now, but will elaborate later. However, the plastic debris screen is scratched all to heck, but it is not visible when the hood is closed, so I'll just deal... thanks for the imput tho, guys. |

I would go the route Yeti suggests, get it in writing and then get the repair done. That is what (their) insurance is for, hopefully they are bonded...
