Question Headlight out, not the bulb

2004 Cert. reg Xenon: I have a driver side hi/lo headlight out. I thought it was the bulb, but swapped it out to the other side and it works there. I thought it could be the fuse, but they all test fine. Does anyone have any experience with wiring issues?

Possibly the ballast, which is listed as the igniter in VW-speak. It is the other half of the xenon headlight equation.

Is this part of the bulb housing or somewhere else? Thanks, I will look into this.

It is a separate unit. The igniter is built into the D1S bulb, but the ballast (which VW actually calls the igniter) is a separate unit. I believe it is beneath the headlight assembly, but am not sure.

If you check out the parts breakdown of the headlight assembly on 1stvwparts.com you can find a diagram showing it.

I have an appt with the VW dealership. I am told if it's not the bulb, which I have proven it is not then it is covered under the certified warranty. Thanks for everything.

I'm going to piggyback on this.

Last week passenger bulb started flickering and finally went completely out 2 days ago. I suspect that it is the headlamp assembly (not sure yet as I have not swapped bulbs to confirm). I have a 2005 with 77,000 miles that was purchased in Oct 04 (way prior to CW 31/05). Did not see any restrictions or limitations in the TSB. If the assembly is the problem, will I still be covered under the TSB for this issue?

Driver side assembly was replaced under warranty for the same flickering in early 2007.

Thanks,
Mike
