Dead Battery Fix?

Just got my Touareg back from the dealer after the third dead battery total power loss in 9 months. Each dead battery was preceded by a "check tyre pressure" warning on the display panel. Yesterday the dealer replaced the comfort control module and installed a new battery at my insistence. Today I am receiving the "check tyre pressure" warning again and a dead battery may soon follow. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?

Re : Dead Battery Fix

After eigth months without the battery problem, the battery was drained again this week. The early signs were the tyre pressure monitoring system default and the differential lock warning. The garage told me that these were signed that the battery was being drained.
I sent the car to the garage where they did not bother to find the reason why the battery is drained. They did the standard checks recommended by Volkswagen. They did not find anything. Then they charged the battery and that's it. I told the service representative that several causes were identified on the Internet and that he could check whether one of the causes apply to my car. He responded that he did not see the necessity to do more than what is recommended by Volkswagen.
So we picked up the car and this is where it becomes interesting. When I started the engine, the warning for the tyre pressure monitoring system default came on. I called the service representative who asked me if I knew how to use learning mode. I did not (and did not find anything in the car's booklet on learning mode) so he started to manipulate the set-up for the tyre monitoring system. He tried to store the new pressure hoping than the warning would get off. Unfortunately for him, the warning stayed. So he told me that I could go and that the warning would go off after driving a little bit, which it did not.
The garage is Concessional in Rockville Maryland.
I called Volkswagen of America three times this week and the person did not return any of my calls.
The car had one year this week and has spent 40 days at the garage for the battery and airbag default problems. I already wrote once to VoA and a second letter is going out next week.

JBreton - when the Tire Pressure Monitoring system is put into learn mode, it does take up to 15 minutes of driving for the system to learn the pressures correctly. You cannot have the system learn correctly without driving.

This does not abdicate your dealer on the battery issue, and they should have been more definitive on how the TPM system works, but htey are not wrong on this point.

Good luck on the battery issue. Keep us posted.

2005 V6 Touareg with 216 miles on it. Tried to open the door with remote and nothing. Opened door and tried to start car, nothing again and then couldn't remove key. Called VW roadside assistance and the person they sent didn't know how to jump start the car, couldn't locate battery. Sent the "assistance" on his way and hooked up my battery charger. Charged battery and car started and ran fine. No lights were left on. Also noticed when driving car to dealer the oil gauge was at 0 pressure and dif. lock lights were blinking. When I tried to show this to service everything was fine. I know battery was drained, but don't have a clue as to why. Also I have the impression the dealer also hasn't a clue.

key won't come out and battery dead

We had the same experience and a lot more that went with that. You can read my previous posting that was dated in AUGUST 2004. You have only just begun.....

Yes, the first sign is that your remote won't work (I actually forgot that til I read your posting). The second is no nothing when you turn the key and then the key won't come out. TRY (once in a while it works) to turn the key BOTH WAYS.....sometimes it comes out.

We are in process of VW buying back our Touareg. Good Luck with yours. I won't mind trying again in SEVERAL years of watching VW work with all the electronics and "getting it right"....

My 2004 Touareg has been in the shop 14 days.. Last thing they did is to replace alternator. They've replaced several things. I've had problems since I bought it on 9/26/04. See my other postings.I has under 1,000 miles.

Touareg Problems

I still read the Touareg club forum, even though VW bought back my V8 Touareg in August.

I miss the Truck but I dont miss the problems. Every problem listed here, I had with Treg. Its number was 31xxx. When VW gave me the choice of buy back or replace, I was real tempted to get a replacement. Service advisor told me that the newer ones were less problematic.

I almost went for it because I feel the Treg is the most unique vehicle on the road, and Ive had many, buy my wife reminded me over and over again of all the times we were left stranded because it didnt start, or the time when the stepper motor shuddered so much that I was afraid of driving it.

I bought an Acura MDX....sure not all the bells and whistles of the Treg, but I know the reliablility is there and it will start for me at least.

Im hoping VW will solve all the problems, and maybe when they do I will buy another in 2-3 yrs.

Good luck guys
