Dead battery due to navigation system form active runways

I am looking for anyone who has experienced problems with their Touareg, concerning dead batteries. I recently purchased my vehicle, and one night the battery went dead. I was told by the dealership that VW of America had been conducting tests on navigation issues on aircraft, specifically military bases, that cause the electronic system in the Touareg to think that vehilce is trying to start. This continues eveidently until the battery is dead. Has this happened to anyone lese?

I know that dealerships and VWoA are looking into the NAV system as one of three possible reasons for batteries draining.

Ask your dealer for: TSB 91-04-11 "Update Programming (Flashing) Navigation CD"

recurring electrical system problems

Aviation nav signals is a new one for me. I've have a dead battery a half dozen times over the past six months, starting around 5k miles. Here are the sources: failure of the Nav system cooling fan to shut off on a hot day, interruption of convenience menu item changes when the light turned green and I had to drive off while settings were being changed, aftermarket wiring (Satellite radio and handsfree cell phone kit), and faulty grounds "caused by paint." VWOA clearly has a problem with recurring electrical problems with this complex car.

recurring electrical system problems

Almost forgot: The overhead compass module was identified as another source of ground faults and replaced. And when I dropped off my dead Treg today, a mechanic mentioned a TSB that came out within the last 24 hours specifying a NAV system flash to address battery drains.

Hey all, I just brought in my V8 Touareg '04 for the fourth time since i got it because of the dead battery problem. I don't really know what to do, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me to give the dealership since they dont seem to know what to do. I really love the car so dont want to get rid of it, but i dont know what to do. Have there been any recent TSBs out concerning the dead battery. Thanks for the help

New battery drain

Try this one. A TSB last week identified the text crawlers some FM radio stations use to identify the song being played happen to share frequencies with emergency broadcast information the Touareg radios are programmed to receive EVEN WHEN POWERED OFF. The idea is to turn on the radio automatically in the event of emergencies. This unfortunately can power on the NAV unit when the car is off and no one is around to listen.

This fix involves flashing the NAV unit software. I'll post a follow-up if this does not prove to solve my recurring battery drain issues. Good luck.

Alright i will try that. I have already had the battery replaced, charged plenty of times ofcourse, replaced the amplifier, and had a new compass system and navigation fan have been replaced.

Yes, there is a battery recall. My service advisor informed me today that it has something to do with the wiring harness between the alternator and battery. Check with your dealer.

I'm getting annoyed with all the dealer misinformation- trying to blame airport runway landing systems? No way, tell me what airport you are near and I will look up and post all their radio freqs. They are mostly VHF AM, low power, they don't interfere with cars, etc.

Just think about what the dealer is claiming and then ask why don't all the batteries in the parked airplanes at the airport go dead?

The other explanations amd solutions given in this thread are more reasonable.
