Dead !

Well I took my car to the dealers to get a Flickering RHS HID looked at. The HID had been replaced under warranty some 2 years ago, but since I have extended warranty I thought rather than clean the connectors I'd take it to the dealer with TSB from board in hand.

Well I get a call saying the battery is not in good condition and they want to replace, 3 batteries in 5 years ?? I say whatever they think, I ask why is the battery a concern, they say that they need to run the diagnostics and this doesn't run right if battery charge not good ? Anyway after 3 days at the dealers I get this call saying can't have the car back as it is dead!! They can't start it, they can't get into the on board computer dead !

I dislike having to get dealers do anything to my vehicles, I always find they have a way of making more trouble. MY Treg has been super reliable I hope this is something simple.

Sorry to hear all the buddy.

I share your point of view and learned this a few years ago.

We used to take the ski boat into the dealer at the end of the year for routine maintenance. Pay the bill, do what they said needed to be done. Every year we would head to the lake for the first day of the season and the boat would not run, or something was wrong. One time they incorrectly linked the throttle backwards after routine maintenance, move lever forward=reverse. Or they left a water drain hose open and almost sunk it.

Eventually we decided to stop getting it serviced and do the little stuff ourself. Guess what, year after year it has worked perfect. Starts up and runs fine all summer.

My theory is the less it is taken apart from new the less to get disrupted and go wrong.

Well I called the dealer again today, They don't know what the trouble is. Can now start the car but no electrics, lights won't work. It seems that the computers won't talk to each other. The tech thinks it is some relays not working ?? Realy he doesn't know

It's difficult to take more bad news from a dealer when they can't diagnose the problem that landed you there to begin with.

Well I'm now in a Diesel Passat for a few days. I am more frustrated by the way they went about the process. They are looking for complications on the light when the issue should have been to follow the TSB I took in. They started with diagnostics, thought they have a flat battery, and so on. Still haven't looked at the light issue yet !!

Well got the Treg back yesterday. They replaced the control unit ? And another new Battery ! The light well that still isn't fixed. Guess what they followed the TSB and discovered that they need to install a new Globe ?

So a trip to the dealer to get a light seen to has caused me 8 days off the road, a new battery, and still no globe. By the way the Battery cost me $450.00 ???

Good news is the new controller was under my extended warranty, and same for the globe, so this gets a bit back for me.
