Bi -Xenon Headlights Brights point up. Dealer said can't adj

I have a 2004. Brought to shop couple of months ago. Told dealer bright lights point up. They said they were self leveling, and no problem found. Now that winter is here I find it difficult to see the road at night, and question if the regular lights are pointed correctly. I even went for an eye exam to make sure it 's not me. No problem found. My wife has an RX 330, and it lights up the road beautifuly.

I was under the impression even the self levelling were adjustable.

If there's no fix and they're out of spec they ought to be ordering you new lights then. Did they even spec it out?

I am very happy with the lights and find them to be tremendously bright - both hi and low and I dont' even have them vagged.

First service I was not sure if I had a problem, and I don't think they really took a good look. I have another service appointment next week. Just looking for feedback on this issue. This time I intend to be aggressive in my aproach. Thanks

Sounds like you have a problem with the self-leveling feature. You should be able to check the specs of the lights by shining them on a wall from a specific distance and measuring the cut off pattern. This is something that your dealer should have looked into.

By the way, do your XENON lights wink at you when you unlock the car at night? They the self-leveling feature should dip the lights once and then level.

They do wink. I think they do move from a low to a level location when this happens, but when the brights are on the headlight is ponting high, I'll check out if they dip after it gets dark.
Thanks-

Does anyone have what the spec should be?

"when the brights are on the headlight is ponting high"

When the brights or high beams are on the lights are supposed to be pointing high. That is their job.

Also, it should be your halogen lamps that are on, not your xenon lights. Unless they are vagged to stay on with the high beams.

I am confused.

I know that brights typically are aimed higher. These point approx to 3/4 height of a 30' tree from approx 100'. I fiqure that the lights on this truck should be similar in their abality to light the road as the RX 330 my wife drives, the MDX that I had before this, and the piece of _____ ML that I had before that. Question ? the word "Vagged" ? What does it mean?

Vagged refers to using a Vag com (software and computer interface) to change some of the software setting of the car's computer. For example you can vag the Touareg to run both the Xenon and halogen highbeam headlamps at the same time. This setting provides a lot of light for those dark mountain roads.

ScottG, my husband commented on this very thing once....my brights lighting up the upper most branches of the trees. I have no answers for you...just noting the same thing.

The bi-xenons do not change aim or point higher when the high beams are on. A "Shutter" opens and lets the light go higher. The same amount of light light is on the road . Stand back 50 meters and have someone turn on the brights. The halogen "Flashing" lights are off. Getting the car Vagged so that all 4 headlights are on with high beam is great.
Like most new cars , the upward scatter is awful in fog or snow.
The aim of the xenon is easy to change with a long allen key (1/4 inch ) in the hole above and near the headlamp. This change the aim of the whole lamp. Chech with having the lights showing the cut off of the shutters against a wall
