You're probably right. For instance, my old Passat's fan did stayed on for about a minute or so every now and then without any problems. But with my TReg, the fan never stayed on after the engine was shut off. It was only when I had this problem with the sensor, the fan kept on running, for good 2-3 minutes at a time, even after the engine was shut off.

Some attention should be taken towards this before other problems start to show their ugly heads. Things like battery draining, which leads to ecu problems which opens up a whole new bag of worms that needs to be stopped before that happens.

Contact the dealer and get those sensors checked out.

I don't know. I think the Passat has the engine mounted transversely (left<->right) versus the longitudinal style in the Touareg. This may expose it to more air to keep things cool.

Or, it could be that it's just not working anywhere near as hard towing the Passat around and doesn't get as hot.

You are referring to the Touareg smelling hot?

It might be something else.

Is there any warning lights on? My son has a '00 Passat and had a head gasket go bad on him at 69k.
