technically there isn't anything wrong with cutting wires if its necasary. What I'm guessing they did is use a wiring harness behind the radio and this sent the speaker leads back to the amplifier. The then had to unplug the amplifier and the cut and spliced to bypass the amp. I prefer to scrape the sheild away and solder then tape. But in your situation those are the only 2 ways to do it. If I'm wrong please correct me but I'm guessing they didnt just go chopping s*** randomly. However if the did cut a harness off the should have left enough length to reconnect it. Now about charging to put it back to stock when I was in the business we had a policy that was advertised that we put it back to stock for free. But you have to understand that the installers are paid piece work and it takes just as much work to undo the install as to do it. Now was the only reason you wanted it out was that they cut and spliced for signal at the amplifier? If so I would have charged to undo it also. But I would have to see the work and if it was reckless or problematic you have a good case for free work.

It sounds like the shop hardwired the radio to the car... if so I would be pissed unless that is what I requested or was notified that is how the intall would be done.

yes if they hardwored behind the deck they are retards however he makes mention of amp plugs which makes me believe they were just bypassing the amplifier which has to be done. The only issue is the should have spliced and soldered not cut and butt-connect.

I know!
They did bypass the amp. But, there was no need to cut all of the wires on the plugs (yes both of them) that connect to the amp, when they already had them unplugged! And they told me they had the "wiring harness" from the Touareg in stock, but instead they hardwired the radio. Not only did they charge me for the wiring harness, they also did bother to tell, or ask if I wanted them to cut the wires on the amp plugs! I have installed many radios in my past, I know how to do things right, and I know how to do things wrong, this was absolutly the wrong way.

With the plugs out of the factory amp, you could have tapped into them and just left them unplugged. Then when you placed the factory radio back in to sell or for whatever reason I wanted to all I would have had to do is connect the radio in the dash and plug the plugs back in the amp.

if they didnt use a harness behind the deck they f**** up. Just unpluging the amp doesnt bypass it. There is no need for them to cut the whole plug off just spliced the speaker lines. So if I'm understanding you right they definatly f***** up.

Sure sounds like a hack job... they must have been out of their league working on a German vehicle.
Out here in South Dakota many shops audio, exhaust, even tire places wont touch my Touareg for fear of the unknown…maybe it’s because they cant even pronounce the name of it. Unlike Nor Cal where I just moved from there was a wealth of knowledgeable people and specific VW shops... I miss that.

Folks, please watch the language in your posts. Vulgar language is not necessary to get your point across.
