I think there is only three resorts period in the US that don't allow boarders and I am a season pass holder to one of them!! None of them are in CO as far as I know. The resorts to avoid if you are a boarder are Alta, Deer Valley and another resort I think in New Mexico some place. Steamboat was a nice place the two times I was there and I don't recall it being to spendy as far as lodging but that was a few years ago. That is the only resort I can speak of for CO, but if you want save a little on airfare and just stop in UT there are plenty of places to take your boards, except Alta and Deer Valley. Roads are kept pretty clear here in the Canyons and if it gets that bad they will close it anyhow so you don't have to worry about getting stuck anywhere.

The key to deals here are packages. Depending on the dates you travel you could get a package including air to some of the more pricey resorts for a good value. You may not need a car if you fly into an airport close to the resort. Steamboat, Aspen/Snowmass, Telluride, Vail/Beaver Creek and Crested Butte all have airports within a reasonable distance. If you factor in the savings on the car it may be a better deal over all. In general Steamboat will be less expensive than the others. Also the resorts that are beyond a 3 hour drive from Denver have a different feel to them. The visitors to these resorts usually stay for a week or more. Kind of like the difference between Snow Summit and Mamoth although the crowds and mayhem here is not as pronounced as the California resorts. All of the resorts have central booking services which would be a good place to start shopping. Let us know what you end up doing.

arapahoe basin is a nice place for extreme if that is what you are looking for, brek is where i always go but vail is huge and i would recommend it, there is a ski pass that offers vail, beaver creek, a basin, keystone and brek - you can buy the year pass for only like 4 of 5 hundred, its the best way to go if you are going to be there more than a week, brek has some sick ski in and out condos there too.
