Who will be the first to trade for the Atlas?

Car and Driver speculates we may ditch the Touareg for the Atlas.

With only the old V6 gas engine. No Diesel. No Hybrid. Plus the new German reputation.

Car and Driver thinks the 2017 Touareg is going to be a hard sell.

The Touareg is likely to be the choice of VW loyalists only—and even they might lose interest once the Atlas comes to town.

No idea if the Atlas will be a winner but I doubt many current or former Touareg owners will seriously consider it with its current engine options.

I read in another review of the Atlas that you can see the unused glowplug symbol in the driver information display.

"I could be wrong. In fact I often am."

Footnote: Comparing the Touareg to the Murano or any other CVT vehicle is laughable on its face.

The atlas looks cheaply made. I do like that it's a bit bigger. It's also not good looking as it looks like an explorer. Seems it's made to directly compete with it and priced to do battle with the Korean ones too.

I might as well add this. We already mentioned the Atlas.

The Explorer looks better. It's going to be a hard sell in that price range. It's pretty unremarkable in features and options. 3,200 Ford dealers. 650 VW dealers. If you want one, wait 6 months and grab one when the dealers start to discount them to move them off the lots.

Meh.

This VR6 was already average on T3... VW is really trying to milk this engine from last decade...
Not sporty
only tows 5000lbs
no offroading

only usefulness I can think of is it can sit wife and 3 kids with occasional grandparents visits.

Asking prices climb for used VW TDI diesels as buybacks proceed

LOL looks as though 2013 - 2015 Touareg are now over 50k.

What is Car & Driver smoking? VW may sell some Atlases but not to Touareg drivers. And yes, comparing it to a Murano just shows how little understanding there is even among industry writers about the Treg and its history.

We have members buying Q7's, LR's, Porsches, Q5's, MB's, JGC's, trucks, maybe XC90's, but not Atlases, so that should say something. We also have members refusing to give up their Treg TDI's even for ridiculous $. Nuff said.
