Over 100K miles in a 2013+ TDI? Long term care

I am curious how long the 3.0 gen 2 engine may be expected to last and what the long term service issues may be. I know the engine itself is durable but the ancillary systems are more complicated than the diesels of old. Anyone crack 6 digits on the odometer yet? When would one replace the HPFP to avoid a big disaster? Probably as soon as the extended warranty runs out at 120K miles I'm guessing.

Would be interested in your thoughts since I am hoping to keep the Q5 I just bought until the wheels fall off.

I have 102k on my 2012. While that is the Gen 1 engine, I've had zero issues aside from AdBlue heater and pump. Don't think there is much difference in the Gen 2 as it's more evolutionary, more HP, bigger turbo, etc. Point about the HPFP is valid but there are members here with 2011-2012 Gen 1 with 140k+.

124K miles on my 2011. Burned through extended warranty with several sensors, switches over the years, plus adblue full replace under factory warranty, but the big hurt was turbo blown at 114K out of warranty. Bunch of sensors going was the warning prelude to the turbo in hindsight, so I would be wary if there's a history of that. Parking it now for buyback out of fear the hpfp could be next. I'd replace the hpfp if I was going to keep it. Love the longevity promise of diesel in general, but I hate the idea of a pump that can cause a $15K repair bill. Done with this engine myself.

Very sensible decision in the circumstances.

I have a 2012 - Gen 1 ... with 161,000 miles. I hope I do not jinx myself but I have had only minor issues (ie. software flash and diesel cannister replacement) shortly after buying the car. I strictly follow all scheduled maintenance.

The sort of experience most buyers would expect, no?

Surely. But VWAG's 2.0 turbocharged gasser have been plagued by chain and oil consumption issues, and that is just this brand family. My hope is that this particular engine has a better ultra long term record, particularly leaving aside the emissions system, which I can delete after the extended warranty expires in 2024.

Chain issue was cured in 2012 production.

Oil consumption issues? Some VW eat 1qt <oil change> some dont.

You're kinda making my point for me. Those 2012 cars are now more and more hitting 70K + miles and sucking down a quart of oil every 300 miles, or blowing chains on startup. That's why I'm interested in long term use experiences.

Well it has been FIVE year since the fix. That is now the VW/Audi go to engine spanning many platforms.

So define: "long term". More than 5 years? More than 60k miles?

If you have an engine consuming 1qt per 300 miles, take that polluter off the road & get a new car...
