Very true. But most diesels have far more clatter than the 3.0 TDI, including BMW's. Of course, there might be a reason for that ...

"The combination of the fuel injection and defeat-device software was used on Audi V6 diesels from 2004 to 2008 in Europe, the attorneys general said. The company called it “Acoustic Function” because it reduced the clattering noise. VW engineers decided to adopt the Audi technology to meet tough U.S. emissions standards in 2006, according to the state lawsuits."

That it's in the lawsuit isn't proof, but it makes sense.

I'm intrigued by what the Bronco could be. There have been some great renderings, but since it's being built next to the Ranger I'm expecting it to be some version of the next generation Everest. If by some miracle Ford offers the F150's new 3.0L diesel in the Bronco, that could jump straight to the top of my list.

2017 Acura MDX, I know its not quite up to the tasks like the touareg TDI is but I'll trade my 7700 lbs towing capacity for 5000 lbs if its means a more reliable car and good treatment when I get it serviced at the dealership.

I like the new Q7 but its a little bit out of my price range, I can get the MDX with SH-awd for around 45k. But mostly because I will not by another VAG product, as much as I like their products because of all this TDI mess. I have lost all respect for the company.

Starting to feel the same about VAG as a whole. MDX is an interesting thought. I haven't driven one but if the driving dynamics are solid it's an idea. I'd probably lean towards and X5 out of everything but really like the complete package and luxury of the Touareg in an non lux badge.

Speaking of price, Nobody is going to pay a 3K premium for a VW currently.

The current cars on the dealer lots are moving, but an identical VW sitting on the lot in July 15 sold for a higher price then that car is selling for in July 16.

If VW matches the competition at $ and features, currently imo, 80% will chose the competition.

VW is going to lose profits going forward for a few years. Before, VW just needed to offer a car at the same price as the competition to have a hot seller. Now, VW will need to offer you more then the competition, which is going to keep profits thin for the next several years.

Funny thing is that Audi is unscratched. No price discounts for Audi vehicles.
