All-New 2019 VW Touareg Is Pretty Much The Production T-Prime Concept

Quote:
Underpinning the third generation of VWs flagship SUV is the long-wheelbase version of the groups MLB platform, used by the new Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and the next Porsche Cayenne. As such, there shouldnt be any surprises in the powertrain department, with the Touareg to launch with 2.0-liter TFSI turbo four and 3.0-liter supercharged TFSI V6 gasoline engines, 3.0-liter V6 diesels and later on, a V8 TDI and a plug-in hybrid pairing a 2.0L four-cylinder with an electric motor. Dont bet on seeing the diesels in North America.

As VWs flagship model after the demise of the Phaeton and the restructuring of the SUV range, the new Touareg is expected to show off all the latest technological advancements, including the introduction of the T-Primes futuristic touch-screen system that encompasses the instrument panel and upper center console, if not standard, at least as an option. In the concept, the screen acts as a huge tablet allowing users to tailor its appearance simply by moving around tiles.

Supercharged V6, hmmmmm. The rendering of the T-Prime front and side views look awesome.

If it can tow the same 7,000lbs and get almost 30 mpg it would be a win, even at the same or higher MSRP's as the current Treg. There just isn't a gas motor that is as efficient, yet. At least the Treg is not dead, yet.

2019?

Launching this autumn makes it the 2018 model year.

Excellent Wikipedia info on all models:

I love how it's off road ability has been completely lost in the new design.

That's the only reason I'm holding onto my 2008 for dear life. Not that I could afford ANY Touareg brand new from the showroom floor!! :- (

Its more and more about blingy electronics and cabins to make someone who doesn't care about motors and handling feel pampered.

Im very skeptical this will the the US market. With the Atlas nearly here, I wouldnt be surprised if the 2017s that are here now will be the last Touaregs in NA.

They will bring the Touareg to North American because there is a market for it. The people want SUVs and all manufacturers have a range of choices, sometimes with lots of overlap. It is no different for VW.

VW's entire NA program is total disaster. They don't seem to have a clue as to what they will do here. I would bet their business here will continue the slow and steadily decline. None of there new products interest me in the slightest. Sad
