New Stereo Project
About to overhaul the the entire stereo, heres the list of parts on order:
Headunit Pioneer AVIC-Z2X (Already have) Front Speakers: JL Audio C5-650 Rear Speaker: JL Audio ZR-800 (Midbass Woofer) Component Amp: Alpine PDX4.100 Sub: JL Audio 8w7 Sub Amp: JL Audio 250/1 The install will be done by myself and I can imagine be pretty difficult just from reading about it, but I'm not scared. Overall the new setup should be well rounded, loud and clean.

I'm sure he does. The hole is also 10". He will need to make adaptors from MDF and some dynomat. Any speaker can fit in there but you need to make trim rings. I'm assuming this guy did alot of research and knows what He is in for and has wood working tools like a router or a jigsaw. If he needs pics of what were talking about look at my picassa web album.

So there is no readily available aftermarket speaker adaptor??? Anyone? And why would this car, which is so badass in so many ways, have an effing RIVITED speaker in each door??!?! I mean, wtf?

I there aren't any aftermarket adaptor for the door speakers. They must be custom made. The treg has 8" subs that are very shallow. Maybe 3" deep. Rivets or bolts doesn't matter the issue is the size of the whole in the door and the depth of the aftermarket speaker you plan on putting in it. I used 3/4" mdf to make rings to mount my 8" dynaudio's in it. If your going to do a self install you should have the skills and tools to make it happen.

I believe the reason there are no speaker adaptor available is because of the fact that the stock speakers are actually pretty good so there isn't much demand for them therfore scosche and metra won't waste the money for R&D, mold building and trying to sell them.

Sorry I havent replied faster, work has been crazy. My treg is currently 200 miles away being worked on since the local dealership can't get me in for 3 weeks!
I have thought about using a 500/1, but im going off of the JL rep and the factory recommendations and using a 250/1. Afterall it is only an 8" and im not really that bass hungry, just clean tight and responsive component sound. Yes the doors will be quite the installation feat, but quality doesnt come easy, and the shops in my town are really expensive. And doing some talking with them they dont completely know custom installs very well. I have a few installs under my belt, and some friends with amazing systems. Im sure between the few of us we can figure it all out. Rivets dont really scare me, and custom brackets arent too hard to make. We have a woodshop on base that has every tool available, and i have good experience with the tools. Personally I dont think the stock stereo sounds good. I've always been the one to have aftermarket stereos though. And i dont think companies looked into makeing brackets becasue the market isnt huge. There will be pictures when I get all the parts in and get my treg back. It should be a 'fun' install.

But I will make sure to listen to the 8w7 with a 500/1 vs a 250/1, it cant hurt and you just might be right.
