Tire advice?

I have a 06 v6 with 17 inch rims. I am looking for a tire that will be good on the freeway and good in the snow. I am in the mountains almost every weekend. Would it be easier if i went up a size because there are more options? I don't want to switch rims because i all ready had mine powdercoated. I like the way that the 18 bfg's look but they don't come in my size. I also like the way linder's open country's looked.

I just purchased Nitto Terra Grapplers 255/55R18 for exactly the same reason. I want a freeway driving ability and traction in snow when I go snowboarding. I had these installed on my second Touareg and I absolutelly love them.

You don't have to do the 255/60/17 stock size if you don't want to. I am rolling on a set of Nokian WR's in a 245/65/17 and they work just fine. The speedo reading is way closer in that size then the stock size.

How about a 255/65/17 or 265/65/17 Bridgestone Dueler REVO? They are great tires on the road and they 110% kill it in the snow. They only tires better in the snow would be a dedicated snow tire.

I would say about the same for Nitto Terra Grapplers, I had them in rough Ukrainian snow last winter and they were absolutelly great. I'm getting the same set for my Touareg in Chicago.

Yes, the Bridgestone Dueler REVO. are good in the snow, as long as it's still relatively warm, and they are a great offroad and highway combo tire. Very quite with great handling. I've been running them for four years now and two different Touaregs.

Wider is not better for snow. You will have a tendency to float on the snow rather then going through it.

True Yeti, but he is looking for a compromise tire and the BFG do just fine in that size.

To californiacanadian, you will have no problems with fitment in 265/65/17.
