Need Tire Advice

So I've read through many posts about which tires to get. Nokian's are too expensive so it seems that the general at2's are what would be best for me.

Went to tire warehouse and they said they do not fit, but people here still use them. Why is this? I realize you can use different sizes than stock, but is there some sort of risk that places like tire warehouse are afraid of? I'm not too knowledgeable with tires.

Tire warehouse had some General Altimax HP tires that would fit...does anyone have experience with these? They do not look as good as the at2s....

By the way, I have an 04 with stock rims.

The tire companies have a data base of tires that fit a particular vehicle, etc.

When I bought my BFG's from Discount Tire, they also said that they would not fit after checking in their computer. One of the California members reported that the 265/70/17's did fit with no rubbing. Tell your dealer to put one on and test it.

If they won't, then you need another dealer anyway.

Rick

What he probably meant was they don't have the tire in the size of your current stock tires. That does not matter because other tires will fit with no rubbing as Rick said. I am running an 245/65/17, but I am looking for a new set of tires soon and will be going to a 245/70/17 to give me a little more clearance for offroad use. I am currently running the Nokian WR's and they are a great all weather tire and the reason I am changing them is they got pretty chewed up from running two Rallys on them in CO. If it would not be for the fact that tread blocks are literally missing chunks I would still be running them. They actually worked pretty damn well offroad and Rick can attest to that since I was on the same trails as he was in CO. I plan on getting a set of Vatiiva's for my next set of tires. Nokians are expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

Alright guys, thanks for the responses! I wish I could fork up the extra cash for those Nokians as they seem to be the no.1 choice of tire on this forum. What would be a good size to get the General AT2's in?

Are you running 17" wheels and do you have air suspension or steel suspension? They make a 245/70/17 with a correct load rating. This would give you a 30.5" diameter tire which would put you about an inch over stock height tires.

I have stock 17" with no air. And again I'm almost retarded with tires, is the one inch gain an advantage over the stock?

Thanks for the speedy reply, much appreciated.

It would be an advantage in that it gives you a little bit more clearance over stock if you plan to offroad at all. If that is not your intent you may want to stick with something closer to stock if you are at all worried about how it will handle onroad with a taller tire.

I see, well I've never gone off roading. So something that would be a little bigger than stock or even a little smaller I guess would be good...
