Have a 6 month old TReg, and I've just discovered a leak in the rear area. We had heavy rains yesterday, and today I opened the hatch to get something out of the back, and I had water pooled in my mat. Then I lifted the cover to the spare tire hatch, and the carpet was wet, with mold built up underneath. Anybody heard of this??? I also noticed that my right tail light has condensation inside of it. Dealer has it now, we'll see what they say.
There are a couple of different possible areas that can leak. Sunroof drains, hatch seals and the seals around the fixed side windows. Your dealer will have to chase this down for you.
Thanks Spockcat. They're looking into it. But it's a strange leak to say the least. Guess I've just got to wait and see what they find. I just hope they actually find the source, there was mold growing in the spare tire area. That could be real nasty come summertime. I'll update with any findings.
Okay, the verdict is in. Dealer says that there was a rubber seal missing in one of the roof rack rails, all the way at the back. Of course we have no idea why that seal wasn't there to begin with? I've never tinkered with the rails myself.
Down side is the tail light has to be replaced because of the water condensation. They had to order the part, and it won't be in until Friday. So we're talking Tuesday-Friday downtime at this point, assuming I get my TReg back then. Oh well......
I think I've heard of the missing roof rail seal also - once.
As for the taillight, this is no big deal. I had a bad one on my V8. The dealer replaced it. In fact, it is better that they replace it now so they can grease the fittings that the taillight goes into, so it will be easier to remove next time.
If the leak started at the roof rack seal and got as far as your spare tire compartment, I would be suspect of mold or mildew in the insulation in the roof, side wall, and under the cargo compartment carpet as well. :-s
Okay, typical VW......they have not yet gotten the parts that they needed, and my TReg isn't ready yet. They claimed that they did not get any parts shipment on Friday. I was originally given a date of Friday, and now it's out to Tuesday. We'll see if that happens.
The saga continues!
Okay, so they identified the water leak and seem to have taken care of that. However, I also had condensation built up in my passenger side tail light. So they had to replace it. Went to pick it up yesterday, and guess what? They replaced the wrong one. So now they've got to order the correct one and I'll have to go back.
In addition, my passenger map light switch is bad. They say they fixed it, supposedly found a loose connection. Low and behold.........still turns itself off.
They're being nice, but c'mon!
