Roof rack key???

So, not having a need to move the roof racks until Friday last, I was unaware that they apparently require a different key than the ignition. I was, obviously wrongly, under the impression that the ign. key worked everything, as it does in my wife's Jetta. Now knowing what I think I know, is the roof rack key an easy find, expensive, otherwise??? Are they specific to an individual vehicle or ubiquitus among the Touareg family?

James

Take the code off the lock core and go to Thule's site. Plug the code in and order how ever many keys you want. Thule made the racks for VW and they are Thule lock cores.

x2 - This is what I did and got the keys in about a week. The stealership told me they would have to order them and it would be $30.

x3!

When you input the code at Thule's website, found here:
Thule
Make sure to omit the letter. It should be something like "NXXX".
You'll get the keys in about a week. Also, you'll want to order the master key, which is just a blank one. This helps to replace the core if you ever need to.

Thanks to all. I called my local stealer, $25 +tax. Called Thule dealer, Rack Attack, $5 + tax....hmmm, think I'll go to Thule.
Now I need a good price on a hitch AND light module. Actually the hitch is easy. The module costs $$$$$$$.

Hi, I just got my key from Rack Attack and a Hitch From Burnaby Hitch although Rack Attack can also install the hitch.
Burnaby hitch did a great job but forgot to plug back in the parking assist sensors. They took care of the problem right away.

Good luck
