Peeling homelink buttons!!!VW Warranty Sucks!

I just have to rant a little bit. Heres some history for you all, I work at a Honda Dealer and Have been there Many years, I own 3 Hondas (acura is a honda) and My VW Touareg. My VW being the most expensive by far ($55000). I was impressed with there 4 year 50000 mile warranty (hondas warranty is 3/36) but after owning the vehicle and having some issues with it and finding out that there 4 yr 50000 mile warranty only covers certain things and is not a bumper to bumper as they stated it. Anything that is a wear item is only covered for 1 yr 12000 miles. What kind of warranty is that?? I have never seen such a horrible description as "wear and tear' to me sounds like they are not liable for anything. Any button you touch should last longer then 40000 miles! I called VWoA to see if there was anything they could do and they said no! I bought there 'Flagship' vehicle and you are not going to cover a $50 part? Hondas warranty may be 3./36 but they cover things a lot longer than that without any questions! I have seen many things covered that should not be but they cover them for customer satisfaction so people keep coming back and buying new hondas, they are very loyal to there customers and vice versa. I can tell you this will be my Last VW I will ever buy! Hello VW if you can read this start making "wear and tear" items last longer then 2 years!

No argument on that from me. If you can believe it, Audi (and presumably Bentley which shares Treg and Phaeton parts) use the same crappy "black paint over white plastic" switches! My allroad peels exactly the same way -- whenever you ding it with a fingernail or a cell phone or a bag or a ...

So ... trade the Touareg on a Honda/Acura. You will be much happier - and with the lower stress levels, probably live longer.

I find things like this usally come down to your relationship with your dealer...I never had an issue with my dealer, they replaced the one issue I had with a peeling button well into the warranty period....not freaking out and instead just mentioning it to your service manager is usually the best approach. If you just dumped 55 grand on a car they usually care more about your business than the $12 dollar button they need to replace, if they don't find another dealer......regardless, things wear out so items like brakes and tires or other wear items aren't covered by any warranty. To be honest with you when you spend this kind of money on vehicles its more about the relationship with the dealer than the vehicle itself. I can get treated like **** at my local BMW dealership or get treated with respect at the local VW dealer. Thats why I drive a Touareg and not an X5. In your case, not sure why working at a honda dealership you wouldn't just buy an MDX.

Also they are volkswagEns not volkswagOns. (check your sig).

You're starting to repeat yourself

I then told him I work at a local Honda dealer that is owned by the same person, he then went into his managers office and came out and said that they would cover the wood peices but not the peeling of the buttons? I know at my Honda dealer We cover EVERYTHING 3 yr/36000 miles and sometimes beyond. Even if you kids kicked out the rear dash vents we will cover them? Why is VW so stingy when it comes to warranty? 4-5 years and 50000 miles should mean anything and everything should be covered! I am Very dissapointed in the response I got. All I have to say is once these are replaced I will be doing all of my own maintance. VW won't get a dime from me if they don't want to cover anything or make it a hassle.
All but a couple of your posts are complaints about the Touareg. Now we have to endure your angst at six month intervals about the same problem?

Do us all a favor and lose the Touareg - seriously.

I don't "Hate" the vehicle, There are many things that I love about the vehicle and that is why I bought this over a MDX or FX45. If I didn't I wouldn't have it anymore. Like lots of us here this vehicle has had A LOT of growing pains. Its been to the dealer many times over for various "updates" and such. Yes I did mention the peeling button a few months ago but I talked to many people on this board after the fact and on the Vortex and they all told me to call VWoA about it because they have had it covered when they opened a claim with them so I thought that would be my next approach to see how VWoA would handle the situtation. Obviously VW has enough money to not take care of a simple issue that is not only an issue with my touareg but many on here. I would take it to another dealer but I should not have to run around like a rat to find someone to cover it and waste my time and gas not to mention the next nearest VW dealer is 45 miles away. This is a very expensive vehicle and if they want my business back to buy another one they better stand behind their product. I know there are a lot of growing pains with a new vehicle I see it on our vehicles every so many years when a new model gets introduced BUT Honda owns up to them and fixes whatever needs to be fixed to make it right with the customer. VW Has done this on many levels with this vehicle, they have replaced a lot of things and also bought back a lot of them for issues but if they know that their buttons are faulty and peel why wouldn't they either change the design (obviously a lot of them do it) or warranty their workmanship? As far as buying an MDX I know that the earlier MDX had a lot of transmission issues, and since I usually have cars for a long period of time I didn't want to wonder when the transmission was going to go out. BUT a New 07 MDX will be in my garage soon for my wife, I think we are going to get rid of the TSX for it because we just had our first Child!

I may have to try your dealer for mine said no when I asked. I am not that worried about since for me it is just the handle on the drivers door and I don't notice it unless I am looking at it.

My dealer never had any issues replacing soft touch parts that were worn in either of my Tregs......I think the dealer can make or break the Treg ownership experience....

My service manager actually got upset when he saw I colored the mirror knob (on my old '04) on the console with a Sharpie marker and he ordered and replaced the knob without asking me a thing!
