Overheating Problem

I recently noticed that the electric fan runs for a few minutes after I turn off the Touareg so today during a long drive I notice the the temp guage is reading 230 degrees when it is normally between 200 and 210 degrees. The coolant level is fine.

Any ideas as to what may be causing the overheating?

Vag com scan shows a few faults:

Perry,

Are all the faults current, do they return after being cleared?

The first 2 are still there:
17887 - Brake Boost Vacuum System: Mechanical Failure
01810 - Actuating Motor for Temperature Flap; Right (V159)

Maybe it's the thermostat. No coolant overheat message though.

Noticed that your truck is an 04. The brake vacuum hose from the electronic pump to the booster becomes brittle over time - specially the angle and "T" joints. They will crack resulting in a vcauum leak. Another tell-tale sign is the consistent "running" of electronic pump (humming when brake pedals are depressed).

It would have been a quick fix if VW sold the hoses and fittings separately unfortunately, they are in kits. I think a total of 3 sections at around $90 per section.

Check the lines to see if you can find cracking. Good Luck!

Took it in to the dealer and was told the thermostat was stuck. Extended warranty to pay for the repair and it's not cheap!

While they are in there, I am paying for a new timing belt, water pump and tensioners out of pocket since the warranty company is paying for the labor.

Yep, only 56,000 miles on the odometer but the timing belt is 8 years old.
