You're right, dealer is wrong. Most of the time mine reads like yours, dipstick between the marks and electronic display reads full. Sometimes electronic reads one tick mark down, but next time full.

Electronic works OK, but I'm not a fan.

I advised them to order it anyways....and yup, it fits!!

Just have then pull up the part number for a 2010 3.0L TDI. It won't be listed as a 2011 or 2012 part. The dipstick tube is on the right front as you face the engine. It's capped by a plastic cap (orange, I think) that just pops off. No other modification needed.

 

Looked all through engine. There is a plastic cap that is black in front of engine at right with a plastic tube curved down and left. Is this the one?

To clarify, the tube is already part of the engine. All that is needed is the dipstick. Which part number did you quote?

 

Is there a calibration option. Other mfg have a set of steps to follow that confirm the electronic read out is correct.

Ordered from the dealer no problem...about $22.00 canadian.

 

I installed and tried out, and wasn't impressed. First the dip stick doesn't make a tight fit--can easily loosen upward over rough road. Second, its not accurate compared to electronic monitor. The question is where is the electronic monitor located. It would make sense it is located near oil pan, which is why you wait several minutes to check oil on hot engine. The dip stick isn't long enough to make it anywhere close to the oil pan, thus showing a lower reading.

Interesting. I don't have that problem at all. The stick has two nubs that fit into detents on the tube; do you have it pushed in all the way. Correct lineup is as shown in my picture up thread.

Mine is 24 3/4 inches from tip to top of orange handle.

The electronic reads 2 ticks below full, and dipstick reads 1 tick above low. Which is correct? Why did VW & Porsche go to an electronic system in 2011?

 

I had oil changed by dealer Saturday. Put stick back in, and electronic meter reads full after driving 60 miles at 80+ mph and letting vehicle sit 15 minutes on level ground. The dip stick reading however, reads on lower part of stick, meaning to add oil. So which would you say accurate?

 

Did you make sure that the two indexing nubs on the bottom of the stick handle were aligned with the recessed in the top of the dipstick tube?

First time I checked mine I did not notice this and oil level read low due to stick not fully down in tube.

With the distance between MAX and MIN only being 5/8" and the indexing nubs being 1/8" long, not getting the nubs aligned and down in the tube makes your reading 20% lower than actual. I think this is why they deleted the stick and went electronic!

Ever since my first oil change at 10K miles my electronic oil level has been on the full line, it has never moved??? Before 10K mile service, it went down and I had to add a quart.

 

I did my oil change a week ago and used the dipstick as my guide for refilling. It reads full and the electronic dipistick also reads full. So far they seem to match up.

 

It could also mean that electronic meter stops at where it see's full, even if you add oil to dip stick reading. Did anyone do an oil change using electronic full & compare readings?

 

What is this fuss all about? If I remember right, electronic oil screen readings do reflect OIL LIFE, not the oil level. Yes, the screen graphics represent it as a virtual dip stick, but it is a different way to control engine oil wellbeing. I would agree that having both – real oil dip stick and oil life meter reading – gives more information about your vehicle, but is that really necessary? Anybody can share a story about an incorrect electronic oil life reading that negatively affected their Touareg? Maybe I should consider buying dip stick for my TDI too? Thanks!

 

The fuss is that too much oil can cause foaming and cause valve cover seals to leak. Too little oil can cause engine wear.

 

Per the diagram above, how do you find oil temperature? On mine dealer used 8 quarts.

 

Oil temp can't be found as per diagram, the oil just wont display when too cold. I've vag-com'd my mfd to display oil temp as one of the vehicle options.

 

I remember seeing the VCDS coding to do it, but from what I recall I was unsuccessful in getting it to work. Might you post the link for it?

Then click 10-Adaptation,
Add oil temperature to dashboard by selecting (in the drop-down menu)
configuration of driver information system - oil temperature - active

for some reason "SOME" of the touareg's wern't able to enable this menu. Depends on your vin or build date I think. Not much you can do. But you can view oil temp with your vag com from the laptop. Just can't tell you the menu off the top of my head.

Ya the dealer's don't have the '11 or 12' year dipstick even listed. Just check with the '10 model v6 tdi, it should be 14-20 bucks.

 

2004 dip stick tip (plastic part from high oil line down) appears to have broken off. It wasn't broken on last change. Question, if it IS in the tube, where could it end up and could it migrate to a vital part, or block oil delivery to a vital part? (ok, I understand that all parts are vital...except this POS dip stick). I ordered a new one and I am going to swap oil well ahead of schedule, but perhaps only way to be sure.
