Length of 6mm hex for oil filter drain plug

Can anyone tell me the length needed to reach the drain plug? Will a T-handle 6mm hex to or do you need a wobble 6mm? This is for an 08 V6.

Siberian,

I use a combination of two extensions to reach the oil filter drain plug. All told mine adds up to about 9" plus the 6mm hex bit. What I don't understand is how VW engineers could place a hose smack dab in the middle of the access to the oil filter. Drives me crazy everytime I change the oil. I had a few VW techs say the same thing to me. Hope this helps.

Thanx Surfman. Obvioulsy time to reverse engineer here. In the winter, it's really not practical to be crawling under the car as with the snow melting in the wheel wells you end up soaked. But now that that is past, I need to change the oil. So...

there must be a way to hook up a valve or a hollow bolt with the nut inside the cover to the oil filter pan where the screw is and do this remotely. In the meantime as I ruminate this would a t-handle or a bit work better?
