Help for Touareg 2.5TDI

I am from Greece and I am interested in Touareg 2.5TDI (2008 new model).
If anyone owns it I would appreciate if could help me in the following topics:
1. Average fuel consumption ( I usually drive on a highway with 130Km/h)
2. Average cost service
3. General impression from the car
I have heard too many different opinions up to now but I think that owners opinions is always respectful.

Thank u in advance for your help and contribution to my decision.

I just bought an '07 2.5tdi. It is basically the same as the '08. I only had it for 2 weeks. My initial impression is very positive. I can't help you with fuel economy because I am still on my first tank of fuel. I live in Moscow so I am constantly in stop and go traffic and combine this with the fact that I only have 400 km on the clock AND I have a Wabasto engine heater using diesel (from the main tank) to speed up warming the engine, the mileage is about 13L/100km. I believe that once I break the engine in and it gets warmer my mileage should be much better. I believe I can acheive the combined rating for the car of 10L/100km - 24 mpg. It has a 100 liter fuel tank and it costs about $80 USD to fill up. When I filled up the tank, the computer says I can drive for 740 km. We'll see about that. Although not very accuracte calculation but I have half a tank left with 350km from the fill up.

As far as driving impressions, the diesel 2.5 is the only Touareg I've driven. I am amazed with the engine. In stop and go traffic there is some turbo lag but not to much. Once the car is warmed up, it is fairly quick. I think the 6 spd auto is very well matched to the engine. I have yet to take it on a road trip but the little highway I've driven around Moscow, it seems it will be very comfortable with plenty of power on tap at highway speeds, again I think the engine/tranny combo is great.

Hope this helps.

Adrian

You're welcome. A bit slow compared to what? At least in the stop and go traffic I drive in, I think the TDI is excellent. This engine has alot of low end torque and again I believe the transmission is well suited for this engine. I think the VW and Volvo engines have similar power and torque characteristics. Not sure about the volvo transmission but the VW has the 6 speed auto.

Actually I also considered the Volvo XC90 2.5d. I did not actually test drive the car because it cost about 5 to 10k USD more than the Touareg. The plus side for the Volvo is that it has a third row seat. Albeit only for kids, but if that is an important factor for you, then look closer at the Volvo.

For me, I think the VW is more sporty than the Volvo. Also I like the VW engines better. I don't recall if the Volvo had the center differential lock (useful for off road) and of course the Pneumatic suspension is a plus for the VW. You should test drive both, on the same day if possible and try to test it on the type of roads you will mainly use.

Me too.. Me too..

Greetings from Finland!

I've had my first treg for one week now and I simply love it. I crashed my KIA Sorento about 3 weeks ago tested all similar cars like Volvo XC90, BMW X5 etc, but Treg was the only car that had "that feeling". "This is my next car", I said to myself when sitting behind the wheel for the first time.

Mine is '05 2.5TDI with bi-xenons and CD Nav including 6 cd changer (under passanger seat).

I've driven now about 1000km and my average consumption is around 9l/100km (mainly driving around in suburbs not very much on highway).

Congrats! I'm still at about 800km. I do mainly city driving, but I'm gonna try and take it out on the road here soon.

BTW.. do you have a manual for your car? When I bought mine, they promised me an English manual but of course they did not deliver on it....so can you let me know the break in procedure? That is the RPM range versus the km travelled. Thanks!

HELP on my decision

Thank u for your help
I am between touareg and vovlo xc90. If I buy touareg it will be probably the 3.0D second hand from Germany, the xc 90 it will be new one. I drove both of them and in my opinion were excellent cars with some advantages and disadvantages. XC 90 is cheaper, better for a family, lower service cost and consumption. On the other hand Touareg is better off road and for me more wild (beautiful).
I spoke with a friend who works in VW service and he told me that 2.5 has a higher fuel consumption compared with 3.0 and higher service cost because of the driving belt (it’s a chain in 3.0D and it doesn’t need replacement)
I am really confused but in 2 or 3 weeks I will make my decision.
Once again thank u
