Flickering overhead panel/compass

It only happens at night when lights are activated. The display flickers from light to dark? I have a lot of lights gouing off? maybe I just need to have the battery tested????

Probably nothing wrong with your battery. Mine does it as well and has done since the day I bought it. I never bothered to get it fixed and just got used to it. The clock is also worthless in that it does not keep time correctly. I am really not worried about it anymore since I am looking to get rid of my 04.

You can try, but I never seen it even come up in a scan. There was a deal to vag it to stay on all the time, but when I checked my coding for it, it was already set to always on. I think the displays are just buggy. It does not throw any sort of code though.

There was a problem with early production 2004's that required having the compass control unit replaced in the vehicle and the problems you're describing sound very similar to the problems from five years ago.

You should check to see if it was ever replaced, because VW did have a TSB on this issue.

Man you guys are awesome! Mine was doing it too, and I simply assumed that it was going to be the start of an electrical gremlin. Someone mentioned that the clock doesn't seem to keep track of time well also? Does it run fast in your egg?

Livefreeandrive, not sure that it makes you feel better knowing that other people have the same issue..

Thanks, I do feel better! I am going to start the beast up and start pulling fuses until it stops running! I like to fix things so I am pretty sure I bought the right car. The previous owner, An orthopedid Dr. told me I would get used to it? I am a helicopter pilot so lights and alarms get my attention pretty quick so I will not get used to them?
