cooling fans stay on?

Hi, my 05 Touareg (128,000 miles) cooling fans turn on and stay on for approx 10mins once i turn off the motor, this has never happen before, any suggestions? Water level is fine, temp gauge is normal. Thx

Many cars do this. As long as it shuts off within a reasonable period of time - 10 minutes is not unreasonable for SoCal - I wouldn't worry about it. Take it up into the mountains, you'll see what I mean.

Hunch...bad coolant temp sensor. V-8's have 2 sensors, V-6 might only have one. Fairly common issue with VW and Audi.

Just replace both cooling sensors on my 05. Did it myself, bought parts at olympus, hardest part was the one in front at bottom of radiator, a bit of a messy job, about 1 gallon of antifreeze came out, measured the dump out and replaced with new antifreeze. Belly pan has to come off.

The one on the top back of engine came right out with no antifreeze leakage.

Get a step ladder and a thick blanket to lay on. You need to get way up there for that one.

Parts cost me about $50 total.

took me about two hours.
