Compass display is showing wrong directions

Hi All,

I am having a 2008 V6 touareg. The compass in this vehicle is showing 180 degree wrong direction, that is east as west and south as north. But the text that is appearing below the diagram is pointing to the correct direction.

In the navigation map it is showing the north correctly. The problem is with the compass display.

Please advice me if anyone had the same issues.

Thanks & Regards

Renjith R Krishna

If you look in the manual it tells you how to fix it.

I couldn't find anything useful in the Manual. Seems even volkswagen service in muscat is also puzzled. Please let me know if you can help by giving specific answer.

push the button beside the compass, drive in a 360 circle...this procedure is in the owners manual.

It sounds like it needs to be calibrated. Nickm posted how to do it.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a any such button beside the compass. ( compass displayed as split screen in navigation display ). Also there are no menu item related to the compass recalibration in my Touareg as mentioned in the manual.

Look 1" to the right of the Compass display. There is a large button. Press it, drive in a 360 circle and then press it again. Your compass should be fixed.

Hold up, so you are not referring to the compass in the overhead console then? Or do you not even have a compass in the overhead console? I think we are dealing with something here that is not what we think it is.

My vehicle does not have any overhead console. The compass display is at MFD and at the navigation screen (only if the split screen option is selected) and I could'nt find any button near it to recalibrate the compass.

Here in this region(middle east, Muscat, Oman) we get 3 variants of touareg. One is the base model (no navigation,no air suspension and no leather seats), other is Highline trim with leather seats, navigation. Then there is RLine trim with air suspension and some body kits.

I hate to say it, you are probably going to have to go to the dealer on that one since all of us here in the US are only familiar with the recalibrating the compass on the overhead console. That or someone else with a Treg like yours to help you out. I don't think most of us here will be able to help you. Good Luck and reply back if you get an answer so others know how to fix it.
