Checked with NAVTEQ for map updates lately?

Like most of you who have the Nav unit and have been waiting patiently for an update to be available, I've been checking the NAVTEQ website regularly and readying my bank acount to get the new maps. Well...went to the website yesterday and discovered that VW updates will not be available from NAVTEQ and the site says that the auto manufacturer will be supplying the update.

What can this mean? Has anyone any contact with a VW dealer to see if they will be making this "part" available to us? Will they be notifying us when an update is ready?

I am real happy with the treg and the nav unit (in spite of it's apparent shortcomings to some, it has worked well for us) but I've about had it with NAVTEQ and this update stuff.

Anyone else fed up or have any new light to shed on this issue?

This must be very frustrating. I'm curious as to the delay, and don't even have a nav system.

[silver lining]Since the software in the system is not supplied by NavTeq, only the map data, maybe this means VW want's to ship a software update along with the new maps. One could only speculate what that might be - though I wouldn't hope for anything earth shattering, given the inadequate processing power. But who knows, may be some nice goodies.[/silver lining]
