Brake pads and rotors change.

It is time to change breaks on my T (2004, V6). It has gone 26000 and already ran out of breaks and tiers. I am changing both within the same month. It's a little costly. Did anyone try to change breaks himself? Is it possible to do on your own? If so please reply if there is any tricks. Also I am going to change pads only and resurface rotors (they are worn out for 1mm from each side only), please advice if it is a good idea. Thank you.

I am getting ready to replace my brake pads too. I am looking for aftermarket pads instead of forking over $400 at VW...any thoughts? I know there were some pads in the works last fall so I hope there are some out by now.
