Question Airconditioner Issues

I have a 2006 V8 Touareg and I am experiencing some issues with the airconditioner. As of right now the AC doesn't work to heat or cool, but it will blow air. I changed the compressor and now I can't put any freon into the system. I heard that there is something called an "orifice tube" and the "pressure control valve" which might be the issue, but I don't know where they are.

Does anyone have any info on this or a similar issue who might be able to help me out?

Many thanks!

The Touareg doesn't have a pressure switch but there is a pressure sender, that monitors the pressure on the high side of the system. I believe it is located between the high pressure service port and the front expansion valve.

Also, the Touareg doesn't use the traditional "clutch" driven compressors, where either the compressor is cycled on or off. The compressor has a refrigerant control valve connected to it which is used to adjust the intensity of the coolant through the system. This valve is the N280 valve and is located on the compressor itself. Sometimes, it can be replaced rather than replacing the entire compressor. The symptoms of this are either intermittently blowing cold air, or not blowing cold air to even blowing "warm" air. I am currently working on my situation which involves the last option.

Another great troubleshooting device, if you don't have it already is the ross-tech, VCDS dongle. It can provide much more detailed information about what is going on with your Touareg than a conventional OBDII reader can.

Note: This is only information I have been able to piece together through this forum and the ross-tech forum. Please more experienced and knowledgable people correct any misinformation I may have given.

Hi Fusca,

I haven't heard of the PCV on the Touareg, but there is the RCV, which I mentioned on the last reply which is connected to the compressor. If you replaced the compressor, I would think you had a new RCV valve as well. Before you tried to add the freon, did you pull a vacuum on the system? Also, check with VCDS to make sure there aren't any current error codes on the HVAC system, and make sure there is not a Load management error in the central electronics section.

The PCV is oil vapour related and nothing to do with the aircon system. They are prone to failure though, and tend to squeal loudly like a stuck pig when the small internal diaphragm fails!
