2004 V8 Touareg - TPS, Airbag warnings and paint peeling

MY Touareg is brilliant except for three things

TPS - been "fixed" 4 times at VW dealership and still does not work
Airbag Warning - been "fixed" twice at dealership and now broken again
Paint peeling on all the buttons

Is my Touareg normal and can these things ever be fixed or am I doomed to listen to all these warning dings every time i get into it!

Has just 40,000 miles so was planning on keeping for a few more years but while it drives and handles brilliantly the alerts and awful looking buttons with peeling paint drive me nuts.

Out of warranty now so VW want big $$ to repair and I would do it except I have zero faith that the repairs will work/last. Anyone any success with independent repair shops dealing with issues like this?

Thanks!

TPMS imo in not worth fixing. I just disabled mine, but you need someone with a VAG Com cable and software to do such. The buttons are what they are and some dealers replace them at no cost while others will charge for it. Airbag warning more then likely is the harnass under the seat that is bad and should have been covered by a TSB.

If they tried to fix tpms and airbag before they should still fix under warranty since you had it "fixed" while under warranty
The peeling is "normal".
If you have a Dr. Vinyl in town, ask him. He might know a solution.
Tell your wife to stay away from hand cremes in the car. The chemicals in it enhance the peeling.

I just had my tpms disabled and sensors taken out too. Did not want to pay $440 for new sensors, the cheapest ones I could find.

How did you disable the TPMS? Mine has been going off at highway speeds lately.

There seems to be a couple possible ways to fix the Airbag fault used by service departments. When I had trouble with mine our shop chose to eliminate the problem conector and do a spliced hardwiring. Worked great for me and I believe this is a preferred method of the knowledgable techs.

In regards to the peeling buttons, I avoid using any dressing like ArmorAl on that part of the dash just in case it's a chemical thing going on. I had a very small area start this and fixed it by dawbing some flat black hobby paint on, letting it dry a bit and dawbing it once again. This sticks down the edge so thing's don't get any worse. Blends in just fine. I used a Q-tip as a paint brush of sorts.

Good luck...Cheers!

thanks everyone.

Good to have this info as the VW dealership always makes it sound like this Tourag is the first one they have ever seen with these issues.

I am going to take back again and see if they will "fix" again under warranty.

Will see if the will replace some buttons at the same time.

BTW: does the airbag warning light mean that the airbag will not work?

I got mine replaced from the warranty. They replaced the window switches and AC.

My black buttons have had some paint come off them so I used a black permanent marker to colour in the white spots. It works a treat.

Cheers
Simon
