I'm a new member from Alberta, Canada and have just purchased a low mileage 2006 V-10 TDI Touareg to use as a combination luxury SUV & towing vehicle. I had planned to purchase a light weight toy hauler or travel trailer to match the vehicle's towing specifications; but have a number of unanswered questions about this vehicle's towing capability. Although the towing capacity GVWR is aprox 7700 lbs & hitch capacity aprox 620 lbs the manual states that an equalizer/ weight distributing hitch should not be used!
All the trailer shops we have visited say they always install equalizer hitches on tow vehicles & none of them seemed to consider the hitch capacity all that important ?
I would appreciate any feedback on these issues of just how much GVWR & hitch capacity I can safely handle so I can look for the appropriate trailer.

Used for my 3000 mile road trip and daily commutes for 6 months. Now up for sale with Igo 8 SD navigation card (NA maps) and back-up camera. Nice unit but not perfect. But what I hear neither is the VW RNS-510 at + $2k. Has some down falls such as: Radio reception is just so so, (this was not a problem for me since I am in the city and reception was not an issue. Out in the country reception was okay to poor. Integration with steering wheel controls is limited or nonexistent with some years i hear. I used this unit with my 2010 Treg and it took some tweaking to get everything to work.

My family and I actually liked the unit after 6 months of use. We used the head unit with a rear seat monitor, etc and most everything worked good. The DVD/CD & Ipod players are excellent. The Bluetooth worked without any issues with my blackberry. The navigation in 2D mode worked perfect. 3d mode took up to much memory, so I did not use 3d mode much.

It comes complete with back-up camera. Take a look at the photos.

I would like $450 for the unit plus freight, but will take any reasonable offer.

I am ordering a new 2011 with everything so the 2010 and this unit must go.

You can`t beat the value in this unit.

I'm a happy camper today! The day before my birthday (tomorrow!) I got to pickup my new ride! The 2011 VW Touareg V8 TDI. Big thanks to the dealership here in town and especially the seller. Does everything and beyond. He's a true good hearted person that wish nothing but to deliver a good experience.

So the car? It's a beast! But I do remember it, from my first test drive, to be a bit faster than it felt today. But I think the engine and computer have some "run in" to do before it releases all of it's horsepowers to me? Anyhow, I'll give it a tune after 10000km or so when the engine settled a little, that will give me lots more top end umph and I'll be satisfied for sure. Apart from that, the girls (wife + friend of hers) atleast "wowed" on acceleration and was impressed of the smooth and quiet ride. The V8 sounds a bit too little if you ask me, would like it to sound a little more. But that will be solved later on with some aftermarket pipes that I am sure will arrive on the aftermarket around spring next year.

I didn't get to do any 0-100 times today as my iPhone (4) app, Dynolicious, didn't want to boot up and run. So I'll do that later, maybe tomorrow.

But I did get to try out the sport air suspension mode and carve some corners. This car is incredible stable! As long as you know what you're dealing with, you can push really hard and it won't move an inch from the line you pick. Super fun!

The V8 '11 Touareg does NOT have the Start & Stop feature, like someone here said. I was little bummed about that. It's just the V6 and the Hybrid. But it really doesn't save much gas for me, and it was a bit annoying at times when the engine turns off at red lights during test rides with the V6 and hybrid.

Btw, the MPG will land somewhere around 18 MPG for today. Lots of speeding, accelerating, but also some attempts at eco driving. I am sure that if I drive like a granny I can get it down to somewhere around 25 mpg over the whole tank. But that's no fun driving, so 18 or less it is! On the highway at 80-85 it does 26. At around 55 it will do 33.

If you have any questions you want to know about the '11 touareg, let me know! I got the manual somewhere around here :D And I am keen to do some more driving tomorrow.

I spoke with the dealer and they said that the headlamps were vented and the condensation would dissipate.

However, the owner said that the headlamps have been that way for approximately a year. Doesn't sound like a temporary condition to me.

Any insights on this??
